We've received news that long-time member Mark has passed away. He was also known as AsstCHiefMark on that site that shall not be named.

He was active in meets (TSTSNBN) in the beginning, and joined us in LAX for the meet we had a few years ago.

Rest in Peace.
And let's get one thing straight. There's a big difference between a pilot and an aviator. One is a technician; the other is an artist in love with flight. — E. B. Jeppesen

Met him for the first and last time at LAX at the end of 2019 (also the last time I met Stefan). He seemed like a genuinely nice and friendly guy. This is sad news.
My friend and I applied for airline jobs in Australia, but they didn't Qantas.

Ah shit. I know he had his share of health troubles in the last few years, but this is still a shock.

Rest in Peace.

Sad news. Seemed a nice guy although I never met him.

Sorry to read this. I've known some of you guys pushing 20 years, though outside of 2 guys I haven't met anyone. I remember Mark even from that other place. Zak this year, now Mark. Mark always had a zany humor about him. {sigh}

I always have hope for people and am sad to learn about this. I only check on facebook messages about once/month or so and didn't even know.

That is too bad. He sounded like he was having some major health problems. Did he not have some sort of episode a while back where he just zoned out behind the wheel and the cops recognized it for what it was right away? Well RIP, we used to have some good arguments. Maybe Trump's election was too much for him.

Mark was a challenging character with a range of issues that often alienated him from society, but he genuinely cared about people in his own unique way. I hadn't seen him in person for over 20 years and there were reports that he had slipped back into the old habits that some of us will recall.

Sadly, yes, despite the efforts of a several people to stop him.
A million great ideas...

He helped me out a lot with a work item once. In return I ended up mailing him a pair of shoes.

As I get older, I realize more and more how important a close family structure is.

That's actually a shocker to me. Didn't know him all that well at the personal level but never got the impression he was seriously depressed. He actually sound rather upbeat in his postings, even when discussing his ongoing health issues. I guess you can never really tell.

That's basically how it seemed to me from 20+ years of "knowing" him online.

Ugh. Really sad.

I remember he'd talked about being sober at one point on A.net. That's really a shame.

Anyway, hopefully he's found whatever peace he was looking for.

Wow...I don't know what to say. {vsad} I had the opportunity to meet him back at the 2019 LAX meet, and like many here, found him to be friendly and nice. I hadn't seen him on Facebook in a while and just assumed it was the algorithm that decided not to feature him in my newsfeed.

Some people either choose or are taught to suffer in silence. Society in general has a really lackluster track record in dealing with people that genuinely reach out for help.

As a small example, I personally know a couple of now former cops that lost their jobs for asking for help. One agency went so far as to seek to have the officer's certification revoked.
Make Orwell fiction again.

100% this. Especially so for men. Depression isn't real, apparently, but only pussies get that not-real depression. {sarcastic}

Well, shit. Not the news I was expecting when I decided to check on y'all this morning.

Same here...

Hope he has found peace.
Money can't buy happiness; but it can get you flying, which is pretty much the same.

Always sad to hear though I didn't know him personally. I do hope we can share better news or stories on the forum.
RIP Mark.

Awww, Mark made me laugh and think- he will be missed.
