Each week, Legacy.com has their video of people who have passed who were well-known in different measures. In one way, each person matters, but in another, this week was loaded. There's probably at least 5 people this week who in a different week would've had the center picture in the thumbnail.
Some have already been mentioned above (Newhart, Doherty, Simmons, Dr. Ruth) but there's also
Lou Dobbs, political commentator, 78
Jacoby Jones, former NFL player, 40
James Sikking, actor, 90 - and to Trek fans, he played the role of the 1st captain of the USS Excelsior in Star Trek III
Monte Kiffin, NFL defensive coach, 84 - inventor of the "Tampa Two" defense
Tessie Provost Williams, civil rights, 69 - had to be escorted daily to school for a year by a US Marshal
Joe Bryant, former NBA player, 69 - father of Kobe
Pat Williams, former NBA exec, 84 - I'm throwing in this one because I remember the draft of '93 (or so), the year after Orlando got Shaq and watching Williams when he realized they nailed the #1 pick for the 2nd straight year
