You're right, I sat on a pier in the soupy warmth of an east coast Florida night to watch a moon launch not long ago! LOL If I'd had to wear a jacket, might not have happened! LOL
Failure of the second stage led to the loss of all the satellites onboard. Well, it's not like NASA, SpaceX, and just about any other government that has tried to launch a space vehicle hasn't had the same problem.
